The Atlantic is looking for an experienced editor to oversee our politics team.
This journalist will direct coverage of the 2020 presidential election, White House, and Congress; manage politics editors and a team of reporters; lead story-planning across a wide range of beats across national politics.
The ideal candidate will be a creative and independent thinker who has impeccable editorial judgment, a sense of urgency about breaking news, a keen understanding of how to assign and edit a second-day story on the first day, and a natural instinct for identifying the big questions underlying complex developing stories—including stories unfolding over a matter of hours, and those that span months and years. This person should also be equipped to shape and edit complex magazine-style narratives.
This position is based in Washington, D.C.
Across Atlantic Media, generally, the firm looks for two “pillar gifts” in its candidates. In all of us, these are more aspirational than actual, but they are central in our intentions.
