Ballast Research (a division of National Journal) is a research and consulting firm that helps government affairs professionals build, deepen, and advance their advocacy efforts at the federal and state levels.
We are seeking a Marketing Associate to conduct email outreach to potential participants in the firm’s quantitative and qualitative research projects. Each year Ballast Research fields surveys and conducts interviews with federal and state policymakers and other key stakeholders to understand their perceptions of prominent companies, associations, and nonprofits. An ideal Associate candidate will be comfortable managing multi-channel outreach campaigns, building and maintaining contact information databases, and analyzing campaign metrics and effectiveness. This candidate will also have some professional or academic experience writing and editing compelling copy for email, cold calls, and other outbound messaging.

Professionally you have:
Experience in direct response marketing including email marketing and cold calling.
Strong writing skills.
Strong project management skills
An ability to work closely with a variety of internal stakeholders, as well as interface with external stakeholders (e.g. policymakers, clients).
Experience analyzing marketing campaign analytics from marketing automation tools and CRM programs such as Marketo, Omniture or Salesforce.com.
Familiarity with marketing to the public policy or government affairs audience is a plus.
What will you do?
Recruitment and Retention of Research Respondents
Assist in developing marketing plans and deliverables to support the launch of annual federal and state research projects.
Run high-impact respondent recruitment and retention campaigns by collaborating with stakeholders to identify new opportunities and drive growth.
Implement integrated, multi-channel marketing campaigns that include email, cold calls, and web/social
Database and List Management and Analysis
Build and maintain clean, accurate, and comprehensive databases of current and potential respondents across projects
Analyze, benchmark and report on campaign metrics and effectiveness
Serve as a Point of Contact
Maintain general inboxes, phone numbers, and handle quick requests for interviews, including interviewing respondents when necessary
Work with recruitment and retention staff to coordinate and organize events logistics, guest lists, and related outreach
Required qualifications include:
Experience managing projects from beginning to end, with an eye toward detail
Strong time management and prioritization skills
Strong writing skills
Strong analytical thinking skills, including the ability to synthesize ideas and provide recommendations
