Director, Information Security

The Atlantic has, for more than 160 years, advanced ideas that matter and sparked global conversation on the most important issues of our time. We aim to bring clarity and original thinking to questions of consequence, on topics ranging from politics, the economy, and global affairs to technology, science, and culture. As the third-longest-running magazine in America, we find ourselves at a remarkable moment: one of both continuation and transformation, of upholding our legacy while continuously reinventing ourselves for the future.

We're looking for an experienced and passionate information security leader to join our team in this moment of rapid expansion and growth. You will closely collaborate with Engineering, IT, Legal, Product and Dev Ops to establish and maintain a high level of security across our systems, applications, and data platforms.

  • 5+ years of Information Security experience in increasingly senior roles.
  • Experience with some or all of: application security, data security, cloud security, risk assessment, vulnerability management
  • Excellent communication skills and a strong desire to drive consistent improvement.
  • The ability to prioritize, multitask, and work independently in a growing, rapidly changing environment.
  • Familiarity with relevant legal and regulatory frameworks

  • Develop and lead security initiatives that manage risk, and maintain the continuity of operations to safeguard The Atlantic, our partners, and our customers.
  • Create programs that develop metrics to measure, report, and enable decision making regarding our controls, compliance and policy effectiveness
  • Act as a player-coach to demonstrate and scale best practices around every aspect of security across The Atlantic - including running penetrate tests and helping to triage vulnerabilities.
  • Establish governance to ensure proper security practices are implemented and maintained.
  • Support compliance initiatives around GDPR, PCI and associated state laws.

Across Atlantic Media, generally, the firm looks for two “pillar gifts” in you, and everyone else. In all of us, these are more aspirational than actual, but they are central in our intentions:

  1. Force of Intellect – a discipline and rigor of thought as manifested, often, in remarkable academic performance and, later, success in a professional environment.
  2. Spirit of Generosity – a natural disposition towards service and selfless conduct.
