Staff Correspondent, Route Fifty

Route Fifty, an award-winning digital publication of Government Executive Media Group, connects the people and ideas advancing state, county and municipal government across the United States. Areas of coverage include information technology, innovation, management, budgeting, best practices, open government and public services. Government Executive Media Group is the premier publisher in the federal government market. In addition to Route Fifty, its publications include Government Executive, Nextgov and Defense One, all of which hold market-leading positions and have rapidly growing audiences. GEMG also produces numerous in-person and virtual events each year and has a rapidly growing research division, the Government Business Council.

 

Route Fifty seeks a talented, knowledgeable, enterprising Washington, D.C.-based staff correspondent to join our small reporting team that’s devoted to writing about news and policy issues as they relate to state and local government in the United States.

 

We’re looking for a sharp, driven reporter who can uncover and track important stories and explain them to our audience of decision-makers in state, county and municipal governments.

 

The Staff Correspondent Will:

  • Track a variety of policy issues as they relate to state and local government.
  • Write a mix of news stories and blog posts on a daily basis.
  • Develop key sources and leveraging them to produce original reporting.
  • Collaborate with other members of the Route Fifty editorial staff.
  • Work on long-form articles and special editorial projects.
  • Occasionally moderate panel discussions and one-on-one interviews at Route Fifty events.

 

Qualifications of the Ideal Candidate:

  • Experience reporting about government operations.
  • Strong writing and analytical skills and high attention to detail.
  • Ability to quickly digest complicated information and produce stories on deadline; identify important and innovative ideas; and find tech-oriented angles to tell important stories. 
  • A positive, good-natured, energetic attitude.
