Reporter/Events Editor, Nextgov

Job Description

Nextgov seeks a Reporter/Events Editor to provide coverage of critical developments in federal information technology and help produce timely, informative editorial events under the Nextgov brand on these issues. We’re looking for a talented, sharp, driven writer and editor who can track important stories and explain them to our audience through both journalism and events. This person must have an understanding of the federal landscape and a keen eye for unique government and technology stories.


Responsibilities Include:

  • Writing breaking news stories and enterprise features
  • Developing key sources and leveraging them to produce original reporting
  • Helping develop original program content for Nextgov’s in-person and digital events (10-15 annually), and assisting in speaker recruitment and outreach
  • Moderating panel discussions and one-on-one interviews
  • Contributing to ebooks, special reports and other editorial projects
  • Serving as liaison between Nextgov’s editorial and events teams
  • Qualifications of the Ideal Candidate:
  • Experience in covering federal information technology issues
  • Experience in events, such as identifying topics for discussion and speaker recruitment and preparation
  • Ability to serve effectively as an interviewer and moderator at events
  • Strong writing and analytical skills and high attention to detail
  • Ability to quickly digest complicated information and produce stories on deadline
  • A positive, good-natured, energetic attitude
  • Minimum of three years relevant experience
